Foster Care

In Texas, nearly 16,000 school-age students are in foster care at any given time.

School personnel, including foster care liaisons, coordinate cross-system efforts with representatives from the Department of Family and Protective Services, the Children's Commission, and other entities to improve the educational outcomes of students in foster care.  Regional collaboratives between foster care agencies and special education personnel are also emerging to share information and troubleshoot increasing needs for foster care students with special needs.

These resources and materials provide guidance related to the unique circumstances surrounding students who are in the foster care system.
